I'm considering buying a low-end Acer laptop. I want it mainly for writing and for websurfing, so I don't need a lot of bells and whistles. They have some pretty attractive prices, but from what I've been finding on the Internet, the company has very poor customer service, and their copmuters aren't the most robust.
Is that a fair assessment? Or are the whinings I've seen on the Internet the exception and not the rule? Does anybody have experience with their laptops? Should I run fast in the other direction, or buy one and expect good things?
ETA: We held off, and I ended up getting a Compaq Impresario even cheaper. Wish me luck.

My daughter and wife both have Acer laptops and love them, for what it's worth. To me they seem to be a pretty decent machine for the money.
Thanks, Nick. Have they had them long?
I've never used one, but Woot has one on sale today for $289 (today only). Check the comments for reviews.
Jared, that's so funny. I just found out about woot.com a couple of days ago. The computer has sold out, but I wanted something with a bit more punch anyway, so I don't feel toooooooooo bad...
They're popular in Mexico but I don't know much about how they work. It looks like you already have some good advice. :)
